ICS adopts a teaching method through a weekly group tutorial system. This system is the first of its kind in Japan and we believe it to be very successful since it's implementation in 1999. Design is a subject that is borderless; therefore we strive to raise new designers that have a broad knowledge in design and architecture.
The 1st year consists of basic design principles that familiarize the student to the design process and basic skills. The 2nd year consists of various design projects including interior, architecture, furniture and product design that apply and build upon the basic design principles digested in year 1.
The 3rd year students undertake a major design project and a 6 weeks work placement within a professional design practice.

The education and curriculum at ICS enables students to master various design skills in architecture, interior design and furniture and product design.
The tutorials that currently exist in ICS include a design tutorial, where the student undertakes various design projects. The second kind of tutorial is critical studies focusing on the theory and historical issues of design and architecture. The two types of tutorials support each other allowing the student to build up a broad knowledge of design. In addition to the weekly tutorial system, the curriculum includes a number of lectures and design based studies that concentrate on skills such as drawing, presentation and technical issues.
The 1st year modules consist of basic design principles that students are able to form their ideas into 2D or 3D design.
The 2nd year modules enable students to have understanding of design process and master presentation skills, through undertaking various design projects including interior and furniture design. Students are also given choices in projects depending on their individual interests.
The 3rd year consists of a final design project individually chosen depending on their area of interest. This is supported by a dissertation/thesis. Students also undertake a 6-week work placement within a professional design practice during the final 3rd year.
The Professional Interior Designer is qualified by education and experience to enhance the function and quality of interior spaces.
As an interior designer you will have the skills to work along side architects to design interior spaces ranging from residential, retail, leisure, and many other small to large scale design projects.
A registered architect is a person who designs and supervises the construction of buildings or other large structures. A qualified architect must undertake and pass state examinations.

Age, experience, nationality and educational background do not matter. You can start from nothing at first. As long as you are a person who wants to create things, materialize your dreams, and who feels stronger about this field than anyone else, you are very welcome to attend our school. We can assure you that the days you spend at ICS will be the most stimulating you have ever experienced.
Basically, design means creating things from nothing. However, no one in this world can come up with a great idea the first time around. Even Ronaldinho, who is called the world's best soccer player, trains intensively in behind the scenes, which is why he can impress people with his great plays.
It does not matter if you are unskillful with your fingers or if you are not good at painting. What matters is that you have ideas you want to share and more enthusiasm than anybody else. Technical skills are things that you can acquire through effort.
The advantage of ICS is that we do not differentiate between interior design and architecture. Both of these fields involve spaces in which people live. We want you to make the most of this opportunity to learn extensively and acquire practical skills.
